K-style and half-round gutters can both move roof water effectively when they are sized and installed correctly. The difference is not simply cosmetic: the profile affects how the system looks, how it is supported and which materials and downspouts are typically paired with it.
K-style gutters
K-style gutters have a flat back and a decorative front face. They are widely used on residential properties and are commonly installed as seamless aluminum in both 5-inch and 6-inch sizes.
Half-round gutters
Half-round gutters use a curved trough and are often selected for traditional, historic or design-focused homes. The hanger and downspout details can be more visible, which makes the gutter a stronger part of the architecture.
Do not choose profile without choosing capacity
The correct size depends on roof area, pitch, valleys, run length and outlet layout. A half-round or K-style system still has to be matched to the amount of water reaching that particular roof edge.
Material options
Aluminum is a practical choice for both everyday replacement work and higher-capacity systems. Copper can be used when the finished appearance and long-term material character are central to the project.
