Gutter replacement is a roof-drainage decision, not just a cosmetic upgrade. A good evaluation looks at the gutter runs, pitch, hangers, outlets, downspouts, fascia and where the water finally discharges.
When repair may still make sense
- One leaking corner or end cap
- A few loose hangers
- One damaged downspout
- A localized pitch issue
- A short damaged section while the rest of the system is sound
When replacement deserves a closer look
- Multiple runs sag or hold standing water
- Leaks are widespread
- The system repeatedly overflows despite being clean
- Gutters are pulling away from deteriorated fascia
- Corrosion or physical damage is extensive
- The existing size or outlet layout is fundamentally inadequate
Replacement questions answered in depth
Do not replace the gutter and repeat the old problem
If the old system failed because of poor pitch, too few outlets, undersized gutters, bad discharge or weak fascia, the new design should address those conditions. Replacing metal without correcting the cause can reproduce the same failure.
