When 5-inch gutters can be the right fit
Five-inch K-style gutters can perform well on straightforward residential roof areas when pitch, run length, outlet placement and downspout capacity are appropriate.
- Moderate roof areas
- Runs with adequate outlet locations
- Proper pitch toward working downspouts
- Standard residential K-style applications
- Downspouts sized to empty the run
Do not choose 5-inch just because it is already there
An existing 5-inch gutter may have been undersized from the beginning or may have become inadequate after roofline changes. We compare the roof feeding each run before repeating the same size.
When to compare 6-inch
Larger roof areas, steep pitches, long runs, concentrated valleys or repeated overflow can justify comparing a 6-inch system with larger outlets and downspouts.
