Why fascia condition matters to gutters
Gutter hangers need a sound mounting surface. If the fascia is soft, split or deteriorated, a new or rehung gutter can loosen again even when the metal itself is new.
- Soft or deteriorated wood behind the gutter
- Old fastener damage
- Sections pulled away from the roof edge
- Moisture staining or open joints
- Damage exposed when the old gutter is removed
Repair before mounting new gutters
When fascia deterioration affects the attachment area, the unsound section should be addressed before the gutter is mounted. That protects the hanger connection and avoids covering a known roof-edge problem.
Coordinate fascia with gutter replacement
If gutter replacement already requires removal of the old system, it can be efficient to evaluate and repair the fascia in the same scope rather than hang a new system and revisit the roof edge later.
