Follow the water from roof to discharge
Drainage problems are easiest to understand when the entire path is reviewed in order: roof runoff, gutter, outlet, downspout and final discharge. The bottleneck can be at any one of those points.
- Overflow at a valley or long gutter run
- Restricted outlets
- Too few or undersized downspouts
- Poor downspout termination
- Concentrated discharge near the building
- Water directed toward walks or other problem areas
Improve the bottleneck, not just the symptom
The right change may be another outlet, a larger downspout, a different route, an extension or a higher-capacity gutter. We avoid treating every drainage complaint as a reason to replace the entire system.
Coordinate drainage with the property
Any routing change has to fit access, grade, hardscape and neighboring conditions at the property. The goal is controlled roof runoff, not simply moving water from one visible problem to another.
