How Much Are Gutters for a 1,000-Square-Foot House?

Home square footage does not directly equal gutter footage. A small home might use roughly 80–140 LF, but roof shape and eave length must be measured.

Quick answer: The square footage of the house does not directly determine gutter footage. A 1,000-square-foot home might require roughly 80–140 linear feet depending on the footprint and roof design, but the actual eaves need to be measured.

Two homes with the same interior square footage can have very different roof edges. A simple rectangular ranch may need much less gutter than a house with additions, porches or multiple roof sections.

Planning examples at $12–$15/LF

Approx. gutter footage Planning range
80 LF $960–$1,200*
100 LF $1,200–$1,500*
120 LF $1,440–$1,800
140 LF $1,680–$2,100

*A standalone minimum can apply to smaller installations. Gutters Only currently uses approximately $1,250 as a starting minimum for many standalone installations, with the final number depending on height, downspouts and difficulty.

Why two 1,000-square-foot homes can price differently

A compact rectangular ranch may have only two long gutter runs. A home with a porch, rear addition or several intersecting roof sections can have more eave length, more corners and more downspouts even though the interior square footage is identical.

What else changes the budget?

  • One story versus multiple stories
  • 5-inch versus 6-inch gutters
  • Number of downspouts
  • Old-gutter removal
  • Fascia repairs
  • Guards or drainage extensions

Measure the roof edge, not the living area

For a useful quote, measure or inspect the actual roofline and identify which eaves require gutters, then account for downspouts, corners, height and access.
