How Do Contractors Price a Gutter Job?

Gutter estimates usually start with linear footage, then adjust for material, gutter size, downspouts, access, removal, repairs and job minimums.

Quick answer: A professional gutter estimate usually starts with linear footage, then adjusts for material, gutter size, downspouts, building height, roofline complexity, removal, repairs, access, overhead and any minimum job charge.

A simplified pricing model looks like this:

Linear footage + material + gutter size + downspouts + difficulty + removal + repairs + mobilization/overhead = installed price.

A simple example

Using Gutters Only’s normal planning target for a straightforward 5-inch seamless aluminum project:

150 feet × $13.50 = $2,025

The actual quote can increase for second- or third-story work, 6-inch gutters, extra downspouts, difficult access, fascia repairs, guards or drainage modifications.

Why two contractors can measure the same house differently

One estimator may include downspout footage in the linear-foot total while another prices downspouts separately. One may count removal, disposal and larger outlets in the base price while another lists them as line items. Ask how the footage and accessories are being calculated before comparing a per-foot rate.

Why gutter size changes labor and material

Six-inch gutters use more coil and are commonly paired with larger outlets and downspouts. Copper and half-round systems can also involve different hardware and fabrication methods. Per-foot pricing only becomes meaningful after the specification is clear.

Why small jobs cost more per foot

A 40-foot job still requires a truck, gutter machine, setup, fabrication, crew time, equipment and cleanup. That is why many contractors use a standalone-job minimum rather than pricing a very small job as a perfect fraction of a 200-foot project.

What should be written into the estimate?

  • Gutter size and profile
  • Material and color
  • Linear footage
  • Downspout size and quantity
  • Removal/disposal
  • Fascia or soffit repairs
  • Guards or drainage work
  • Any minimum or mobilization charge
